About Payton Brown

Payton Brown is a visual artist from Berkeley Springs, WV, and is currently based in Charlotte, NC. She earned her BFA in Art Education with a focus in Painting and minor in Art History from West Virginia University in 2021. In 2024, she obtained her MFA in Painting and Graduate Certificate in Therapeutic Art, also from West Virginia University.

Brown’s artwork has been included in select group exhibitions across the US, including: SPACE Gallery (Pittsburgh, PA), Rice Gallery of Fine Art (Overland Park, KS), Arc Gallery (San Francisco, CA), and Masur Museum of Art (Monroe, LA).

While her primary medium is oil on canvas, Payton enjoys creating art in a wide range of media, including: acrylic and watercolor painting, charcoal, oil pastel, colored pencil, linocut printmaking, digital illustration, and mixed media. Payton currently works as a full-time faculty member in the Art & Design Department at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College in Salisbury, NC. She is also the owner of Art by Payton LLC and loves creating products to share her art with others, such as coloring books, children’s books, stickers, and prints.
